Citizens enrolled in the “Mazaya” housing programme breathed a sigh of relief yesterday as the Bahrain Parliament swiftly passed an urgent proposal urging the government to maintain their BD100 housing allowance.

This crucial lifeline comes as the rising cost of living squeezes household budgets across the nation. MPs highlighted the plight of “Mazaya” beneficiaries, many of whom grapple with stagnant salaries while facing ever-increasing deductions and loan repayment burdens.

They pointed out the disproportional rise in bank deductions for programme participants compared to other housing service beneficiaries, adding further strain to their finances. Recognizing the difficulties, the Bahrain Parliament championed the urgent proposal, submitted by a collaborative effort of MPs Hamad Al Doy, Abdulhakim Al Shanu, Ali Al Nuaimi, Badr Al Tamimi, and Hisham Al Awadhi.

This swift action signals a commitment to supporting citizens during these challenging times, offering much-needed stability in the face of economic pressures. The proposal now rests with the Ministry of Housing and Urban Planning, which is tasked with studying the feasibility of continuing the housing allowance.

While the future remains uncertain, the Parliament’s decisive response offers a glimmer of hope for “Mazaya” beneficiaries, potentially easing their financial anxieties and allowing them to weather the storm of rising costs.
