Efforts to promote sustainable urban development will continue, with a focus on the environmental and agricultural sectors. This can be accomplished by expanding projects that ensure an increase in green space and the development of infrastructure for parks and recreational areas, thereby improving the quality of services provided to citizens and residents.

The Minister of Municipalities Affairs and Agriculture, Eng. Wael bin Nasser Al Mubarak, yesterday visited the Barbar Park project in Block 526 of the Northern Governorate yesterday and was briefed on the site’s construction progress.

He was accompanied on the visit by Shaikh Mohammed bin Ahmed Al Khalifa, Undersecretary for Municipal Affairs, and Eng. Shawqiah Humaidan, Assistant Undersecretary for Joint Municipal Services.

Al Mubarak stated that work on the Barbar Garden project has begun on a total area of 8,486 square metres, explaining that the project falls within the Kingdom of Bahrain’s afforestation and green area strategy.

Areas of green coverings with an area of up to 1,430 square metres and a number of shrubs were provided within the afforestation areas to support the Kingdom’s goals of reaching zero neutrality by 2060 by doubling the number of trees by 2035 and increasing mangrove trees by four times.

Al Mubarak called for more community partnership to increase the green area and policies that support afforestation.

The project includes the main elements of model gardens by providing a 383-metre-long walkway and a 1,090-squaremetre-large children’s play area, while meeting security and safety requirements. The park has a distinctive view of the waterfront, which makes it an important vital facility in the northern region.

In addition to providing space for more than 60 cars, family sessions with an area of 693 square metres and service buildings will be provided.
