GCC Steps Up Anti-Corruption Cooperation

Bahrain led discussions on strengthening Gulf cooperation in the fight against corruption, with senior officials from GCC member states reviewing joint efforts to promote integrity and transparency.

Brigadier General Ahmed Saad Al Rumaihi, Director General of the General Directorate of Anti-Corruption and Economic and Electronic Security, chaired the 11th meeting of the GCC Committee of Undersecretaries Responsible for Combating Corruption via videoconference.

The meeting brought together undersecretaries and representatives of anti-corruption authorities from across the GCC to discuss several issues on the committee's agenda.

Officials reviewed a proposed guiding mechanism for the GCC Committee of Experts on Combating Corruption, as well as the proposed theme for the committee's annual event in 2027.

They also examined recommendations from the 2026 annual event organised by Bahrain's General Directorate of Anti-Corruption and Economic and Electronic Security at the Ministry of Interior. The event focused on international experiences in promoting integrity and transparency in sports.

The meeting further reviewed the results of the second GCC Research and Studies Competition in the fields of integrity protection and combating corruption.

Other discussions covered the GCC Joint Anti-Corruption Strategy, efforts to strengthen integrity and compliance in the private sector, and cooperation with the International Anti-Corruption Academy.

The meeting also served as preparation for the 12th meeting of the GCC Ministerial Committee Responsible for Combating Corruption. Officials discussed the issues and recommendations to be referred to the ministerial committee for consideration and appropriate action.
