FIRE VICTIMS’ CONDITION FROM BAD TO WORSE

Manama

The fire victims who lost everything, from shoes to air conditioners in the fire that broke out in their building only a few days ago are in need of help to recuperate from the tragedy.

Speaking to DT News yesterday on condition of anonymity, over half dozen of the 30 victims said the fire broke out at around 1 am when they were in deep sleep. They said they did not know exactly how the fire broke out.

They said their mobile phones, clothes, fridges, gas cylinders and money were burnt into ashes. Some of them lost their CPRs in the fire as well. They were not able to save anything other than their lives.

For three days they slept on the roof of the neighbourhood building but later on, they started searching for temporary shelters.

They said the Migrant Workers Society provided them with breakfast for the first three days. But they are still getting dinner for free. They complained their embassy had not enquired about their condition.

They said that they needed at least five air conditioners, fridges and gas cylinders, fifteen beds, 30 blankets, mattresses and bed sheets.

The manager of the hotel where the MWPS had arranged for the fire victims’ dinners said they were in a miserable condition and the owner of the hotel handed them safety shoes.

Chairperson MWPS Marietta Dias said they not received any significant financial aid from the public.
