Vatican City: During a public address at the Vatican, Pope Leo XIV stated that Christians cannot support or defend war under any circumstances, and reaffirmed a strong message of peace.

The pope emphasised that Christian teachings are inherently grounded in compassion, forgiveness, and reconciliation, and that faith should never be used to justify violence or military conflict. He cautioned against the growing trend in some parts of the world to utilise myths from religion to attain political or military targets.

He urged international leaders to choose cooperation against conflict and communication over escalation, calling for a renewed commitment to world peace. He called war a ‘failure of humanity’ and said mutual understanding and persistent diplomatic engagement are the only ways to bring about sustainable peace.

Also, he encouraged Christian communities around the world to actively support nonviolence and speak out in favour of harmony rather than hatred or separation during times of conflict.
