Bahrain is strengthening the role of its shopping malls in boosting tourism, with officials highlighting their importance as part of a wider strategy to enhance the visitor experience through retail, entertainment, and hospitality offerings.
Bahrain Tourism Minister Fatima bint Jaafar Al Sairafi said that the country’s modern and well-developed shopping centres, along with their diverse range of retail, dining, and entertainment experiences, significantly enhance Bahrain’s attractiveness as a comprehensive tourism destination.
She noted that the variety of options available within malls caters to different age groups and interests, reinforcing Bahrain’s position as a destination capable of delivering integrated experiences that combine shopping, leisure, and hospitality.
The remarks came during a coordination meeting held with representatives of shopping malls across Bahrain, as part of ongoing engagements aimed at strengthening partnerships within the tourism sector and reviewing preparations for upcoming tourism seasons and events.
The Minister stressed that shopping malls are a core component of Bahrain’s tourism offering, as they provide family-friendly environments that combine shopping, entertainment, restaurants, and events. She added that collaboration with malls plays a key role in improving the competitiveness of Bahrain’s tourism sector and supporting the objectives of the Tourism Strategy 2022–2026.
The meeting reviewed recent developments in the tourism sector and discussed ways to expand cooperation to further enhance visitor experiences and strengthen Bahrain’s position on regional and international tourism maps.
Officials also highlighted the “Welehna Alaikum” campaign and the upcoming summer promotional drive aimed at attracting visitors from Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries, alongside key events included in the national tourism calendar.
Participants also discussed proposals for joint summer initiatives between shopping malls and tourism stakeholders. These initiatives aim to offer integrated experiences that combine retail promotions with entertainment activities, dining options, and family events, designed to appeal to GCC visitors and boost Bahrain’s attractiveness as a preferred summer destination for families.
