Russia Lifts Roblox Ban Following Widespread Backlash From Minors

MOSCOW: The Russian government has officially lifted its nationwide ban on the popular online gaming platform Roblox following an unprecedented wave of complaints from tens of thousands of angry schoolchildren and parents.

The digital development ministry announced the reversal after the U.S.-based corporation implemented localised safety measures. Authorities had initially restricted access to the platform last December, alleging it hosted extremist materials and prohibited content.

The administrative turnaround comes after the state internet censorship watchdog revealed it was inundated with over 63,000 furious emails from young players immediately following the winter shutdown. 

Before the block, Roblox ranked among the top three mobile applications for children in Russia. Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov acknowledged that direct appeals from the underage demographic forced regulators to re-evaluate the restriction.

Roblox Corporation held direct consultations with Moscow regulators, agreeing to launch a specialized age-restriction mechanism and strict filters to combat undesirable content. Government officials concluded the platform now fully complies with domestic user-safety legislation.
