Al Asfoor clinches crown

Abdulwahed Al Asfoor was crowned Champion of Champions in the National Bodybuilding Championship as part of the Fourth Flex Bodybuilding Festival 2015 which has concluded at the Alba Club gym in Riffa. The outstanding Bahraini bodybuilder secured victory on the third and concluding day of this major bodybuilding event and foiled Hussain Abdulamir’s challenge to secure the 90kg gold medal.Abdulamir took the silver medal, while Mohammed Mahdi settled for the bronze. Taher Abdulaziz, Ali Ghuloom and Saleh Jaffer were ranked fourth to sixth, respectively.Three more weight categories were concluded on the final day as Ahmed Jassim clinched gold in the 70kg, Hussain Abdulla the silver and followed in third by Ahmed Abbas for bronze, while Mahmood Abdulwahed, Abdulla Farooq and Jaffer Al Naham finished fourth to sixth places respectively. In the 80kg section, Hasan Al Khayyat put on a good show to win the competition’s gold medal against Ali Abdulla, who came second.Mohammed Abdulamir was third, followed by Muslim Abdulla, Saad Yahya and Ali Abdulghani who were ranked fourth to sixth.Ahmed Al Aradi captured a well-deserved victory in the above 90kg contest, beating Ahmed Ali and Ali Al Madhoob into second and third places respectively.Early on, the National Weightlifting Championship took place, involving a combination of experienced and rising Bahraini athletes competing in four events in the men’s section and two in the women’s division.Salman Al Kindi of Al Dair Club scored 206 points to win the 62kg category gold medal. Abdulla Yahya (178) and Fahad Al Jasmi (156), both of Al Dair Club, were second and third.In the 85kg, Yousef Al Shirawi came on top scoring 235 points in total and behind him were Hamad Ayash (222) and Ahmed Al Alawi (142), both of Riffa Club.The above 85kg event saw Jaber Ader of Al Dair Club score 194 points to clinch the gold medal against runner up Jaber Al Aradi (182) and third Abbas Nabil (170).Ahmed Msaifer (106) of Riffa Club was the junior champion, finishing ahead of Busaiteen’s Abdulla Al Alawi (77) and Husain Ali (50) of Al Dair.In the women’s section, Sara Hamad (101) of Budaiya Club emerged as senior champion, followed by Amal Musaad (80) of Budaiya and Al Najma Club’s Aisha Mohammed (60), while Zahra Hasan (79) of Al Najma topped the junior contest ahead of Maryam Sultan (50) and Masooma Ali (45), who were second and third.The winners received their awards from Vice-President of the International Federation of Bodybuilding and Fitness, and President of the Asian Federation of Bodybuilding and Fitness and Bahrain Weightlifting and Bodybuilding Federation Shaikh Abdulla bin Rashid Al Khalifa and Bahrain Olympic Committee general secretary Abdulrahman Askar at the closing ceremony.
