Sports schools are an essential tool to nurturing talents and supplying gifted athletes to national teams. This was said yesterday by Supreme Council for Youth and Sports (SCYS) first deputy chairman and Bahrain Olympic Committee president HH Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa, who chaired the weekly virtual meeting of the Coordination, Execution and Follow-up Committee “Response”.

Participating in the conference were Minister of Education Dr Majid bin Ali Al Nuaimi, Minister of Industry, Commerce and Tourism Zayed bin Rashid Alzayani, and Parliament’s Constant Awareness Committee for Youth and Sports head MP Abdullah Al Dooseri, among other officials.

HH Shaikh Khalid praised the efforts being exerted by the Education Ministry in putting programmes that support school sport. He also shed light on the establishment of sporting schools, stating that many students, both boys and girls, will greatly benefit from having such properties.

HH Shaikh Khalid also valued the efforts of the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Tourism in contributing to boosting the local economy, which serves to back the implementation of development projects that support the youth and sports movements.

Furthermore, HH Shaikh Khalid discussed with the attendees the sports professionalisation law and the relevant mechanisms to implement it. He stressed the importance of establishing a hospital specialised in sports injuries, stating that this would have a positive impact in implementing the goals of the reform programme which was launched by HM King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa.

It will also help deliver the vision of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince, Deputy Supreme Commander and First Deputy Premier, as well as the ambitions of His Majesty the King’s Charity Works and Youth Affairs representative, National Security Advisor and SCYS president HH Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa.
