Jail for Bahraini man who brutally beat up his wife on road

Manama : The Bahraini husband who punched his wife unconscious in the middle of the road in Muharraq Governorate last October has been sentenced to three months imprisonment.

DT News reported back then that the man fled the scene and was arrested on the same night by Samaheej Police Station policemen.

The incident took place on October 26, when the  victim was driving home after she completed shopping at the Dragon City Mall in Diyar Al Muharraq Islands.

According to her statements at the police station, the wife said she stopped her vehicle near the mall when she noticed her husband following her in his car.

“She stopped on the side of the road and he approached her. A heated discussion erupted between the two when the man accused her of lying in the court, as they have some problems that’s in progress before the court. They have one newborn together. The discussion between the two ended with the man punching his wife twice in the face and fleeing the spot, leaving her unconscious in her car for 10 minutes. She was rushed to King Hamad University Hospital in Busaiteen by ambulance,” the victim’s lawyer Ebtissam Al Sabbagh told DT News at that time.

The husband received a suspended imprisonment sentence of three months by the Fifth Lower Criminal Court on Thursday, while no further details were available on the other case.

The incident created a wave of public concern over the increase of domestic violence cases being reported in the Kingdom, as it was the third to be reported in less than two months.
