BTA Mixed Doubles: Hudhud, Muursepp claim gold medals

Manama : Nameer Hudhud and Marianna Muursepp narrowly beat Mohammed Gaith and Natalia Matskeyvych 5-4 to claim the gold medals and win the ‘BTA Torch’perpetrual trophy in the eighth edition of the Bahrain Tennis Academy (BTA) Social Mixed Doubles Tennis Tournament at the Dilmun Club in Saar.

The one-day event, specifically targets new and recreational players and was played with a slightly slower ball to give players more time to react.

In the preliminary rounds, teams were split into two groups and then proceeded to compete in short matches against all other teams within their group. At the end of the group stage the top two teams from each group progressed to play-off for the medals.

In the play-off for third-place, Sameer Altaf and Kerri Smallwood-Darwish defeated Razan Al Tayeh and Ilse Blondeel 5-2 to claim the bronze medals. 

BTA and Tournament Director, Dan Barrie said, “It was an enjoyable evening of tennis where we tried to focus on the fun side of competitive matchplay. It was a great opportunity for players to test out the techniques and tactics they’ve been working on in lessons and practice throughout the season.
