Kingdom to host first big, fat Indian ‘Island wedding’

ManamaBahrain is all set to host its first Indian wedding as part of a move to position the Kingdom as a ‘Prime wedding destination.’ This was disclosed by  CEO of the Bahrain Tourism and Exhibitions Authority (BTEA) Sheikh Khalid bin Humood Al Khalifa, while addressing the Bahrain-Indian Business Forum yesterday.

Revealing further, he said that almost 1000 people are expected to arrive for the event, which will highlight Bahrain’s new identity ‘Island wedding’.

“With our new project ‘Island Wedding’, we are focusing on two countries - India and Saudi Arabia,”  Dr Ali Hassan Follad, Advisor, BTEA told DT News.

Meanwhile, sources close to DT News revealed that Four Seasons Hotel in Bahrain Bay will host the wedding that will happen in April, last week.

The sources also confirmed that the wedding will be of Diya Mehta, daughter of a business tycoon Russell Mehta, the CEO of Rosy Blue and  Ayush Jatia, son of another  business tycoon Amit Jatia, MD of Hardcastle Restaurants (McDonald’s India Franchise).

The couples got engaged in a low-key affair on  December 19 last year. The wedding, however, is expected to be a big affair. The three-day extravaganza held from 26 to 28 of the April will have over 800 guests from India, Belgium, UK, USA and several other countries.

“The family has booked the entire hotel from 24th to 29th of April, with chefs and musicians to be flown from India,” another source at the Four Season Hotel told DT News.

Our source also confirmed that most of the wedding activities will be held at the Four Seasons Hotel and the majority of the guests will be put up there.

“But we were also told that half of the Ritz Carlton Hotel is booked too, to accommodate the rest of their guests,” the source said. Meanwhile, one of our sources at Ritz Carlton Bahrain confirmed that the family has booked 70 per cent of the Hotel and the first function of the wedding is to happen at the Ritz Carlton.

The project, according to Dr Ali Hassan Follad, Advisor, BTEA, was launched exactly one year ago.

He also claimed that the project is a huge success considering the speed with which Bahrain was able to host one of the biggest Indian weddings in the history of the Kingdom.

In this regard, he also pointed out that the wedding industry is of utmost  importance to the Kingdom’s economy as it combines a slew of other sectors including gold and jewellery, hospitality, rent-a-cars, aviation, and clothing.

“What is so special about this wedding is that it is no more a client and a customer relationship, rather it is  more about building relations and it’s about friendship and loyalty,” he added.
