Bahrain to host BDS health conference today
Manama: Under the patronage of HRH Prime Minister Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa, the Kingdom of Bahrain will host the Bahrain Diabetes Society (BDS)’s health conference today.
The conference is jointly organised by BDS and the Gulf Diabetes Research Studies Group (GDRS) in a bid to increase awareness about diabetes and thereby curb the spread of this chronic illness contracted by adults as well as children.
The three-day conference, which coincides with the BDS’ quarter-centenary, will be attended by 500 specialists and participants who will discuss more than 30 papers compiled by Bahraini, GCC and international experts.
BDS Chairman Lt-General Dr Shaikh Mohammed bin Abdullah Al Khalifa confirmed yesterday that all the necessary preparations have been completed to host the conference.
He added that such specialised health forums are aimed to enrich the medical and health fields in the Kingdom.
The conference would include presentation of lectures and workshops for health workers, diabetic patients and their relatives to spread public awareness about the disease, said BDS Deputy Chairperson Dr Mariam Al Hajeri. This will shed light on the latest developments in the treatment of this illness.
Several pharmaceutical companies, hospitals and health centres will also participate in the conference.
The health conference focuses on topics including prevention, complications and breakthroughs in the treatment and medication of diabetes mellitus (DM type I and II) and future prospects for treatment of the disease.
