Airport rebound: Passenger traffic tops pre-closure level

Passenger traffic at Bahrain International Airport has moved above its pre-closure level, reaching 712,357 travellers in July, 1 per cent higher than February, according to the latest Civil Aviation Affairs figures.
July traffic rose 10.7 per cent from 643,725 passengers in June. Departures reached 372,478, up 6.7 per cent on February, while arrivals stood at 339,801, 4.3 per cent below their pre-closure level.
The recovery follows Bahrain's reopening of its airspace on April 8 after flights were suspended following Iranian attacks on Bahrain and other Gulf states.
Passenger numbers jumped from 76,400 in April to 487,100 in May, 643,725 in June and 712,357 in July -- an 832.4 per cent increase over three months. No passenger traffic was recorded in March, while Gulf Air temporarily operated through Dammam's King Fahd International Airport.
