Two Gulf awards have put Bahrain's green transport drive in the spotlight — recognising a solar-powered sustainability push at Khalifa Bin Salman Port and the contribution of a leading woman in mobility.
Bahrain secured the two honours at the second Gulf Green Mobility Forum in Salalah, Oman, with Khalifa Bin Salman Port receiving the Sustainable Organisation Award and Fatima Abdullah Al Dhaen, Undersecretary for Land Transportation and Postal Affairs at the Ministry of Transportation and Telecommunications, winning the Leading Woman in Mobility Award.
Minister of Transportation and Telecommunications Dr Shaikh Abdullah bin Ahmed Al Khalifa received the Sustainable Organisation Award on behalf of Khalifa Bin Salman Port from Dhofar Governor H.H. Sayyid Marwan bin Turki Al Said. The ceremony was attended by Bader H. Al Mahmood, Undersecretary for Ports and Maritime Navigation.
Al Dhaen received her award in recognition of her contribution to developing sustainable land transportation, strengthening governance and institutional sustainability, supporting innovation and empowering national talent and youth.
Khalifa Bin Salman Port was recognised for its sustainability initiatives and projects aimed at reducing carbon emissions, particularly its solar energy project.
The project involves installing solar panels across port facilities to generate clean, renewable energy, while improving operational efficiency and supporting Bahrain's carbon-neutrality target.
Dr Shaikh Abdullah said the awards reflected Bahrain's commitment to developing a sustainable and innovative transport system and adopting solutions that reduce emissions and improve the efficient use of resources and energy.
He said the two Gulf-level awards also demonstrated the efforts of national talent and transport-sector institutions in turning sustainability goals into practical initiatives and projects. The minister reaffirmed Bahrain's commitment to developing the transport sector in line with best practices and using modern technologies and innovative solutions to improve its efficiency and sustainability.
Al Dhaen's recognition also highlights efforts to increase women's participation in the transport and logistics sectors, alongside initiatives supporting sustainable mobility and institutional development.
