The full Isa Town Northern Intersection project will open by the end of August, lifting the junction’s daily capacity from 12,000 vehicles to 22,500 just before schools return.

Southern Municipal Council member Abdullah Darraj said the contractor had confirmed the deadline for the remaining works. He said the opening should ease queues and take pressure off nearby roads as Students, teachers and school staff return for the new term.

The main flyover opened a week ago. It carries three lanes in each direction over the junction of Shaikh Salman Avenue with Amman Avenue and Salmabad Avenue, allowing traffic on Shaikh Salman Avenue to pass without stopping.

Traffic lights at ground level will serve vehicles moving between Salmabad Avenue and Amman Avenue.

The scheme links Isa Town and nearby districts with Riffa, A’ali, Sanad and Salmabad, while Shaikh Salman Avenue also runs between the Capital and Northern governorates and the Southern Governorate.

Darraj said the first opening had already eased pressure on nearby junctions and roads. He added that bringing the whole scheme into use before the school year would give drivers time to adjust before traffic rises.

The works also include drainage, paving, pavements, planting and road safety measures.

The project is being carried out by a consortium of Alghanim International and Almoayyed Contracting.
