New national roadmap targets climate goals

Supreme Council for Environment outlines national green transition plan

His Highness Shaikh Abdullah bin Hamad Al Khalifa has said that Bahrain is making steady progress in environmental protection and climate action, reflecting national efforts to align development with long-term sustainability goals.

Speaking on the occasion of World Environment Day, he said Bahrain’s approach reflects the vision of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and the directives of the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, aimed at advancing the Sustainable Development Goals and securing a sustainable future for coming generations.

Shaikh Abdullah said the annual observance provides an opportunity to highlight national achievements in environmental protection, adding that Bahrain has managed to balance economic development with the preservation of natural resources.

He noted that the Kingdom is continuing to move forward “steadily” towards its climate objectives, pointing to recent international reporting efforts, including the submission of Bahrain’s Biennial Transparency Report (BTR) in 2025 to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). The report outlines progress in meeting climate commitments, reducing emissions, and strengthening adaptation capacity in line with the Paris Agreement.

He also highlighted the submission of Bahrain’s third Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC), prepared by the Supreme Council for Environment, which sets out a roadmap for climate action through 2035. The plan includes measures aimed at improving climate efficiency and accelerating the country’s green transition.
