A group of Bahraini MPs has proposed a legal amendment allowing courts to order the reinstatement of workers found to have been unfairly dismissed from their jobs.

The draft amendment, submitted by MP Zainab AbdulAmeer and four other lawmakers, seeks to revise Article 104 of Bahrain’s Private Sector Labour Law issued under Law No. 36 of 2012.

Under the proposal, courts would be granted direct authority to return dismissed employees to their positions once arbitrary dismissal is proven and requested by the worker.

AbdulAmeer said the amendment was intended to provide workers with greater protection and fairness, arguing that financial compensation alone was often insufficient to address the damage caused by losing employment.

Stability

She said job security is closely linked to social and financial stability, particularly for workers supporting families, paying loans, and managing household expenses.

The explanatory memorandum accompanying the proposal warned that sudden unemployment could lead to debt, legal disputes and broader social and psychological pressures on families.
