Amna Al Romaihi, Minister of Housing and Urban Planning led Bahrain’s delegation to the 13th World Urban Forum in Baku, where the kingdom presented its housing and urban development policies as part of wider efforts to promote sustainable cities and social stability.

The forum, hosted in the Azerbaijani capital from May 17 to 22, brought together international leaders, policymakers and urban development experts to discuss housing, infrastructure and sustainable urban planning.

Speaking during a high-level ministerial session, the minister said  the government was pressing ahead with plans to accelerate housing projects and deliver 50,000 housing units through a combination of public housing schemes, partnerships with the private sector and financing programmes offered in cooperation with Housing Bank Bahrain.

Al Romaihi said Bahrain viewed access to adequate housing as a key pillar of social stability and economic growth, adding that housing policies formed part of the kingdom’s Economic Vision 2030 and the government programme for 2023-2026.

She said Bahrain’s approach focused on linking housing policies with urban planning, infrastructure and municipal services while expanding immediate housing solutions for Bahraini families.

According to the minister, more than 6,555 women had benefited from housing services by 2025, including widows, divorced women and female heads of households, under policies designed to ensure fair access to housing and financing.
