The United States Embassy in Manama announced it will remain closed on Sunday, March 1, 2026, following continued missile attacks targeting Bahrain on February 28. All regular and emergency consular appointments scheduled for Sunday have been canceled, with the embassy stating that a date for resuming normal operations will be announced later.
In a security alert, the embassy advised the public that emergency services in Bahrain are available by calling 999. U.S. citizens can also contact the American Citizens Services at (+1-888-407-4747) or reach the embassy directly at +973-1724-2700, via email at ManamaConsular@state.gov, or through the official website bh.usembassy.gov.
The embassy urged Americans in Bahrain to take precautionary measures. In the event of a loud explosion or alarm, individuals should seek immediate shelter. Those indoors are advised to move to the lowest level of a building, away from external walls and windows, close doors, and stay near an interior wall. Individuals outdoors should seek shelter in a reinforced building; if that is not possible, they should lie flat and cover their heads. The embassy warned that debris from intercepted missiles or drones remains extremely dangerous.
Following an attack, the embassy emphasized avoiding any debris and keeping up to date with official media for safety instructions and alerts available on the embassy’s website. U.S. citizens were also encouraged to enroll in the Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP) to receive the latest security updates and facilitate emergency communication.
The embassy stressed the importance of vigilance, avoiding large gatherings or areas with heightened security, and following instructions from local authorities.
