The Attorney General and Head of the Public Prosecution for Ministries and Public Entities announced that criminal courts have convicted eight defendants in three separate cases for illegally obtaining and retaining work permits through fictitious commercial records.

In the first case, the court sentenced five defendants to one year in prison and ordered their permanent deportation after they were found to have obtained 93 work permits using 51 commercial records linked to non-existent companies, despite having no actual need for the permits.

In the second case, a defendant was fined 61,000 dinars and permanently deported for unlawfully obtaining 61 work permits through 32 fictitious commercial records.

In the third case, the court imposed a fine of 40,000 dinars on the first defendant and 2,000 dinars on the second defendant, along with permanent deportation, for obtaining 42 work permits through 21 commercial records registered under fictitious companies.

According to the Public Prosecution, the cases stemmed from reports by the Labour Market Regulatory Authority (LMRA), whose inspection teams discovered work permits being issued and retained without legitimate need, linked to commercial records registered at locations of companies that did not exist in reality.

The Public Prosecution conducted comprehensive investigations, including interrogating suspects, ordering the arrest of fugitives, hearing witness testimony, and reviewing documents and electronic records. After establishing sufficient evidence, the cases were referred to the competent criminal courts, which issued the rulings.
