Bahrain Inspects 492k Tons of Food in 2025

The Kingdom of Bahrain continues to strengthen its food security framework, with the Ministry of Municipalities and Agriculture Affairs actively overseeing the inspection and regulation of imported agricultural and animal products, ensuring food safety, quality, and public health.

Eng. Asim Abdul Latif Abdullah, Undersecretary for Agriculture and Animal Resources Affairs, highlighted that in 2025, Bahraini authorities handled approximately 492,000 tons of agricultural and animal products and inspected 174,000 heads of livestock. These measures helped maintain steady supplies of meat, livestock, vegetables, and fruits throughout the year, supporting national food security.

He added that total meat imports across all types reached nearly 78,000 tons in 2025, all subjected to comprehensive veterinary inspection and control procedures to ensure compliance with health standards before being released into local markets. Live livestock underwent strict quarantine programs to verify they were free of infectious and contagious diseases, safeguarding both animal resources and public health.

Regarding agricultural imports, the Agricultural Quarantine Departments meticulously examined shipments of vegetables and fruits to ensure compliance with approved agricultural and health requirements before entry into the country. Throughout 2025, the quarantine and veterinary departments conducted more than 20,000 inspections and evaluations at various entry points, reflecting the efficiency and preparedness of Bahrain’s preventive monitoring system.

Eng. Asim stressed the ongoing development of agricultural and veterinary quarantine procedures, continued coordination with relevant authorities, and constant monitoring of imports to ensure the sustainability of food supplies and reinforce public confidence in food safety and quality.
