A workplace dispute over a gas valve escalated into a legal battle at the High Criminal Court, where a 37-year-old Bangladeshi cafeteria employee stands accused of permanently injuring a 56-year-old security guard.
The confrontation unfolded in Tubli when the defendant, desperate to restore the gas supply to his burger and tea shop, attempted to force his way into a neighboring farm warehouse. Despite the guard’s firm stance, acting on strict orders from his sponsor to bar entry, the encounter turned physical; the defendant allegedly grabbed and wrenched the guard’s hand during the struggle.
Medical reports later confirmed the victim suffered metacarpal fractures that healed improperly, resulting in chronic pain and a "three to four per cent" permanent disability. While the cafeteria worker admits to a "brief physical struggle," he vehemently denies causing the injury, claiming the guard twisted his own thumb in a calculated attempt to extort BD1,000 to drop the charges.
