Bahrain’s Interior Minister Strengthens UK Ties in Visit to Durham Police Headquarters

 In a significant step to deepen Bahrain–UK security cooperation, His Excellency Lieutenant-General Shaikh Rashid bin Abdullah Al Khalifa, Minister of Interior, visited the Durham Constabulary during his official trip to the United Kingdom. He was accompanied by His Excellency Shaikh Fawaz bin Mohammed Al Khalifa, Bahrain’s Ambassador to the UK, along with senior officials from the Ministry of Interior.

Upon arrival at Durham Police Headquarters, H.E. the Minister and his delegation were warmly welcomed by Chief Constable Rachel Bacon, who praised the visit as a continuation of the strong partnership between Durham Constabulary and Bahrain’s Ministry of Interior. She highlighted ongoing efforts to expand joint training programs and workshops across various fields of policing and law enforcement.

H.E. Shaikh Rashid bin Abdullah emphasized Bahrain’s progressive and humanitarian approach under the leadership of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, rooted in openness, partnership, and global peacebuilding. He underscored the shared commitment of both nations to deepen cooperation and explore new areas of collaboration, building on their longstanding historic and strategic ties.

During discussions, the Minister expressed appreciation for Durham Police’s extensive support and cooperation in training initiatives, particularly in forensic science, investigative techniques, and leadership development programs. Both sides agreed to explore future collaborations, including specialized training on advanced policing technologies and the application of artificial intelligence in law enforcement.

The meeting also included presentations by Durham Constabulary on police leadership, community policing, school outreach programs, and road safety initiatives aimed at reducing traffic incidents.

In turn, H.E. Shaikh Rashid shared insights into Bahrain’s Alternative Sentencing and Open Prisons Projects, which aim to rehabilitate and reintegrate beneficiaries into society through structured programs and community initiatives. He also showcased Bahrain’s “Together” Program to Combat Violence and Addiction, implemented by the Community Police in cooperation with the Ministry of Education across all schools in the Kingdom.

The discussions concluded with both parties reaffirming their commitment to strengthening joint training efforts, sharing expertise, and enhancing overall security performance through continuous knowledge exchange.

H.E. the Minister was accompanied by Bahrain’s Ambassador to the United Kingdom and senior Ministry of Interior officials throughout the visit.
