Hi s Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, inaugurated the Kanoo Museum yesterday in the Old Manama Souq, placing the spotlight on Bahrain’s rich commercial legacy and ongoing efforts to preserve the Kingdom’s historic identity.
Souq revival
The inauguration comes under the Royal directives of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa to safeguard the cultural and historical character of Bahrain’s buildings and cities, while driving a comprehensive redevelopment plan for the Manama Souq area. HRH the Crown Prince stressed the importance of initiatives that document the Kingdom’s business heritage, describing them as proof of determination and creativity that fuel Bahrain’s development.
Business families
HRH Prince Salman underlined the pivotal role of Bahraini business families, noting that their contributions extend far beyond commerce to embrace social responsibility and national partnership. His Royal Highness said the Kanoo Museum captures an important aspect of the Kingdom’s economic and trade history, reflecting the wider growth of the region through its distinctive exhibits and artefacts.
HRH the Crown Prince added that public–private partnerships are crucial to safeguarding heritage and achieving sustainable development, pointing to the need for strong cooperation between sectors to meet citizens’ aspirations.
Family legacy
Expressing the Kingdom’s pride in the Kanoo family’s contributions, HRH the Crown Prince said their commitment to economic and social progress exemplifies the private sector’s role in national growth.
Fawzi Ahmed Kanoo, Chairman of Yusuf Bin Ahmed Kanoo Group, thanked HM the King for his directives and expressed gratitude to HRH for inaugurating the museum. He noted the project highlights the family’s 130-year legacy in Bahrain, offering not just a cultural monument but also a source of motivation for future generations.
