Smart scooter goes off while charging at home

A smart scooter (also known as hoverboards and segways) that was plugged in for charging exploded in the middle of the night in Isa Town here yesterday.

Though there were no casualties, the fire due to the explosion damaged several household items.

Interior Ministry stated that “the fire broke out at 12.43am yesterday in Isa Town when a segway exploded while it was connected to the electricity to be charged.”

Civil Defence Director General Brigadier Mohammed Showaiter said that “the fire damaged the hall. Civil Defence teams rushed there within no time and they managed to control the flames.”

The Brigadier also warned parents to be extra cautious while their children were using the segways and avoid plugging them in at night.

Showaiter confirmed that the residents of the house escaped the accident unhurt.

The Civil Defence Director General also highlighted that “the warning comes as similar fire caused by unattended charging hoverboards were reported in a number of countries.”
