Three Bahrainis arrested in Kuwait on terror suspicion

Three Bahraini citizens were arrested by Kuwaiti security authorities on terror suspicions, a Kuwaiti journal reported yesterday.

The report published by Kuwaiti daily Al Shahid confirmed that the “three Bahraini citizens were arrested during Friday prayers in Al Rabia district in Al Farwaniyah Governorate, several kilometres southwest of the Kuwaiti capital.”

The report mentioned that the three men, in a suspicious manner left a mosque in the area while Friday prayers were being offered. “The move alerted the security personnel who were guarding the area at the time,” the report said.

It added, “When approached by the policemen, the men stuttered nervously. They were asked about their identities and it was confirmed that they were Bahraini nationals. Their suspicious behaviour led the policemen to take them to the area’s police station, and  referred them to the National Security Agency in Kuwait to confirm if they’re connected to any extremist or terrorist groups.”

However, no comments were made by the Embassy of the Kingdom of Bahrain in Kuwait on the incident.

Kuwaiti security authorities had intensified its procedures in the surroundings of worship places after a deadly attack took place at a mosque during Friday prayers last June.

The attack killed 27 worshippers and injured 200. It was claimed by the notorious Islamic State terrorist organisation and investigations later revealed that the attacker travelled to Kuwait via Bahrain.
