Bahrain has deported over 13,000 illegal foreign workers in the past three years. However, the number of irregular workers still stands at 30,000, according to the latest data released by the Labour Market Regulatory Authority (LMRA).

During a session in Parliament, LMRA’s Chief Executive and Chairman of the National Committee to Combat Trafficking in Persons, Nibras Talib, highlighted that inspection teams have been making repeated visits to combat illegal employment, leading to a 120% increase in visits since 2022.

Talib reported that approximately 3,000 foreign workers were apprehended in 2024 alone. He also noted that 98% of employers were compliant. Furthermore, Talib revealed a 48% decrease in violations within commercial establishments between 2023 and 2024, and a 54% drop in the number of authorised workers found in breach of regulations during the same period. Additionally, 45,000 workers were registered over the period, with many either deported or transferred to new employers.
