Dubai Taxi hits one billion riders in 25 years

RTA reports 682 million journeys since 1995.

Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority has revealed that Dubai Taxis has clocked 682 million journeys since the start of its operation in 1995, lifting more than one billion riders as of December 2019.

Mattar Al Tayer, Director-General and Chairman of the Board of Directors of RTA, indicated that Dubai Taxi's fleet also recorded an exponential growth from 81 to 5201 vehicles, with the number of drivers increasing from 886 to 11,500 drivers.

The number of staff jumped from 23 to 1,131 employees, and the taxi services grew from just one to 13 services in 25 years.

Al Tayer made these remarks during a recent visit to the Dubai Taxi Corporation. During the visit he was briefed on multiple topics, including the implementations of AI in improving taxi services and the automation of taxi services at Terminal 3 of Dubai Airport.

Al Tayer also reviewed the latest update of the DTC smart app and inspected the latest generation of hybrid vehicles added to the taxi's fleet. This move was in line with Dubai's strategy to reduce carbon emissions by 16% in and the RTA's plan to transform half of Dubai taxis into hybrid vehicles in 2021.
