SpaceX Rocket Stage Believed to Have Crashed Into Moon

Washington: Astronomers observing the abandoned SpaceX rocket stage suspect it crashed into the Moon after drifting through deep space for years. Scientists believe the impact occurred on the Moon's far side, where it is expected to have created a new hole.

The rocket stage, which was launched as part of a SpaceX mission, departed Earth's orbit and then travelled an unpredictable path across space. Unable to control the spent booster, researchers tracked its course and concluded that it most likely collided with the lunar surface.

The effect could not be visible from Earth since it occurred on the far side of the Moon. Eventually, scientists predict that lunar orbiters will take pictures of the freshly created crater, which could confirm the collision and offer important information on impact events.

Discussions on the increasing quantity of man-made debris in deep space have also been rekindled by the incident. As the number of lunar and deep-space missions increases, experts predict that improved tracking and strategic planning for spacecraft disposal will become more crucial.
