Canada approves clinical trial for Moderna mRNA Ebola vaccine

Montreal: Canada has authorized biotech giant Moderna to begin clinical trials for a new vaccine targeting the deadly Bundibugyo strain of Ebola. The Phase 1 trial will evaluate the vaccine's overall safety, proper dosage, and potential side effects in healthy volunteers.
The experimental shot relies on the same mRNA technology used in Moderna’s COVID-19 vaccine. Under an agreement with the Canadian government, the vaccine will be manufactured locally on Canadian soil.
The decision comes amid an ongoing Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of Congo, which has claimed more than 1,700 lives since May. There is currently no approved vaccine or treatment for the Bundibugyo variant.
While Canada has recorded no local cases, it restricted travel from the DRC in July as global efforts to develop treatments accelerate.
