London: Outgoing British Prime Minister Keir Starmer has mocked a surprise by-election in which anti-immigration politician Nigel Farage will face Count Binface, the satirical political persona of comedian Jonathan David Harvey.

Farage, leader of Reform UK, is seeking to return to Parliament in the 13 August election in Clacton after stepping down as an MP earlier this month. Count Binface, who wears a giant bin costume, is running as the leader of the registered Count Binface Party.

Starmer told MPs during his final Prime Minister's Questions to 'put your vote in the bin', while Liberal Democrat leader Ed Davey said he was supporting Count Binface over Farage. Major mainstream parties are not fielding candidates, dismissing the by-election as a political stunt.

Starmer is due to leave office on Monday and will be replaced by former Manchester mayor Andy Burnham. In his farewell speech to MPs, Starmer said he would support his successor privately if asked and claimed he was leaving the country in better shape after two years in government.
