Chiba: Two American nationals have been arrested in Japan after allegedly carrying out a stunt at a zoo involving the viral baby macaque named ‘Punch,’ authorities said.
According to police, one of the individuals entered a restricted enclosure at the Ichikawa City Zoo in Chiba Prefecture, violating safety barriers and accessing the ‘Monkey Mountain’ area, where Punch and other Japanese macaques are kept. The intrusion reportedly caused disruption inside the exhibit and violated strict zoo safety regulations.
Zoo officials warned authorities following the incident, leading to the arrest of the suspects on charges related to trespassing and interference with zoo operations.
Punch, a baby Japanese macaque who has gained widespread online attention in recent months, was not reported to be harmed during the incident.
Officials have not released further details regarding the identities of the arrested individuals, and investigations are ongoing.
