Nainital: On Monday, forest officials announced that an elephant in Jim Corbett National Park had given birth to two calves, a rare event for elephants.
According to preliminary information from the forest department, both the mother elephant and the young calves are in good health and are being closely observed by wildlife personnel.
Officials say that the incident is evidence of the success of the reserve's ongoing conservation efforts. They added that safe forest areas, enough food, and a favourable environment sustain the healthy elephant population.
Because elephant twin births are extremely rare in the wild, conservation experts and wildlife enthusiasts view the birth important. Officials have boosted surveillance in the region to ensure the herd's safety and prevent any disturbance to the animals.
