Qatar says Iran should not use Hormuz to 'blackmail' Gulf

Doha: The geopolitical landscape of the Gulf faces severe disruption as Qatar formally denounced Iran’s continued blockade of the Strait of Hormuz. Qatari Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani emphasized that the vital waterway must not be used to ‘blackmail’ or ‘pressure’ Gulf neighbors.

This blockade, established at the onset of the current Middle East war, has halted nearly 20% of global oil and gas transit, placing immense strain on regional economies.

While Iran has targeted US assets, civilian infrastructure and energy facilities in the Gulf have also sustained damage. Amidst this escalation, Doha and Ankara are coordinating with Pakistan to mediate between Iran and the United States. These diplomatic efforts aim to secure a swift resolution and restore maritime stability to the energy-rich region.
