Vladimir Weiss returns as Slovakia coach

Veteran football manager Vladimír Weiss is reportedly set to return as head coach of the Slovakia national football team, marking a comeback more than 14 years after his first stint in charge.

According to Slovak media reports, Weiss is expected to replace Italian coach Francesco Calzona following growing speculation over the future direction of the national side.

Weiss previously coached Slovakia between 2008 and 2012 and guided the team to its first-ever FIFA World Cup appearance in 2010. Under his leadership, Slovakia reached the Round of 16 in South Africa after a memorable victory over defending champions Italy.

The 60-year-old is regarded as one of the country’s most experienced football figures and has managed several clubs across Slovakia, Russia, and the Gulf region. He is currently associated with Slovan Bratislava, where he has enjoyed domestic success in recent seasons.

Neither the Slovak Football Association nor Weiss has officially confirmed the appointment, but local reports suggest an announcement could come soon.

If confirmed, Weiss would return at a crucial time as Slovakia prepares for upcoming international competitions and qualification campaigns.
