The Secretary-General of the Arab League, Ahmed Aboul Gheit, strongly condemned renewed Iranian attacks against the United Arab Emirates, including drone and missile strikes targeting civilian infrastructure, according to a statement released by the organisation.
Aboul Gheit also denounced an attack on an Emirati tanker in the Strait of Hormuz, as well as a separate drone strike on an oil facility in Fujairah. He said the incidents represented a “flagrant violation” of international law and a ceasefire arrangement, according to the statement.
He called for an immediate halt to all hostile actions attributed to Iran against the UAE and against maritime traffic in the Strait of Hormuz. The Arab League chief held Iran “fully responsible” for actions he said threaten international peace and security.
The remarks were conveyed by Gamal Roshdy, spokesperson for the Secretary-General, who said Aboul Gheit reaffirmed that Arab national security is indivisible. He also expressed “full solidarity” with the UAE and support for any measures it takes to protect its security and territorial integrity.
