New York: The Pulitzer Prizes for 2026 were announced on Monday, with the board honouring exceptional works across journalism, literature, and the arts.

Leading the accolades was the Bloomberg investigation “trAPPed,” which won the Illustrated Reporting and Commentary category for its visually driven exploration of digital scam networks in South Asia.

The board lauded the collaboration between Natalie Obiko Pearson, Mumbai-based illustrator Anand RK, and journalist Suparna Sharma for its editorial strength and significant public service value.

The awards also celebrated a surge in independent journalism, with photographer Saher Alghorra winning for Breaking News Photography in Gaza and Yael Grauer sharing the International Reporting prize.

Major honours went to The Washington Post for Public Service regarding federal agency overhauls, and The New York Times for Investigative Reporting into executive branch conflicts. Additionally, the Minnesota Star Tribune was recognised for its Breaking News coverage of civil unrest.

In the arts and letters categories, the board recognised several notable works, including Daniel Kraus, who took the fiction prize for Angel Down, and Bess Wohl, who was honoured for her drama Liberation.

Historian Jill Lepore and biographer Amanda Vaill also received awards for their respective contributions. Established in 1917, these prestigious honours administered by Columbia University continue to recognise work that informs, challenges, and serves the public.
