Qatar Condemns Attack on UAE Tanker in Strait of Hormuz

The State of Qatar has strongly condemned an attack targeting an Emirati oil tanker affiliated with ADNOC while it was transiting the Strait of Hormuz.

In an official statement issued on May 4, Qatar described the incident—reportedly involving two drones—as a serious violation of international law and a breach of maritime navigation principles. The statement also referred to it as a violation of relevant United Nations Security Council resolutions.

The Qatar Ministry of Foreign Affairs reiterated its firm rejection of any attempts to use the Strait of Hormuz as a tool for political pressure, stressing that freedom of navigation through the vital waterway must be upheld without conditions.

Officials warned that any disruption to maritime traffic in the strait could pose risks to the economic and security interests of countries across the region, given its importance as a key global energy route.

The ministry also called for an end to attacks on assets belonging to regional states, while expressing full solidarity with the United Arab Emirates and support for measures taken to safeguard its resources and infrastructure.

The Strait of Hormuz remains one of the world’s most strategically significant shipping routes, carrying a substantial share of global oil supplies.
