Brazil Congress approves reduced sentence for Bolsonaro

Brasília: In a significant political shift, Brazil's Congress has overturned a veto by President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva to dramatically reduce the prison sentence of former president Jair Bolsonaro. Bolsonaro, 71, was originally sentenced last year to a 27-year term for his involvement in a coup-plotting scheme.
The conservative-majority Congress pushed through the bill to shorten his sentence to just over two years, despite President Lula's efforts to block the reduction.
This move marks a major victory for the far-right leader's allies within the legislative body.
