Washington DC: The US Department of Justice has released nearly six minutes of security footage documenting the attempted assassination of President Donald Trump. The video identifies 31-year-old suspect Cole Allen, from California, who was seen "casing the area" of the Washington Hilton before the attack at an annual media gala.
The footage shows a dramatic sequence where Allen, armed with a long-barreled gun, charged through a security checkpoint and shot a Secret Service officer. US Attorney Jeanine Pirro clarified that the injury was not the result of friendly fire.
While the video captures a Secret Service agent firing three shots toward the assailant, authorities confirmed Allen was not hit. Instead, he was tackled and detained during a chaotic scuffle with security personnel. Charged with the attempted assassination of the president, Allen faces a potential sentence of life in prison if convicted.
