Tel Aviv: Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has said that Israel and the United States are fully aligned in their objectives regarding the conflict with Iran.
He stated that both countries want Iran to remove enriched nuclear material, end its uranium enrichment programme, and ensure the reopening of key maritime routes. Netanyahu said the U.S. has been regularly updating Israel on its contacts with Iran.
He added that it is still too early to predict how the situation will develop, warning that Israel is prepared for any outcome if fighting resumes after a fragile ceasefire period.
Netanyahu also said Israeli forces continue operations against Hezbollah in southern Lebanon while supporting residents in northern Israel. He referred to ongoing strikes on Hezbollah positions, including in the town of Bint Jbeil, which has long been a stronghold of the group.
He said Israel is seeking to expand a security zone in southern Lebanon and extend it toward the slopes of Mount Hermon to support local Druze communities. According to him, negotiations with Lebanon are focused on Hezbollah’s disarmament and achieving long-term stability.
Israeli officials said discussions are taking place with U.S. involvement, despite the absence of formal diplomatic ties between Israel and Lebanon. However, military operations in southern Lebanon are continuing, with no instructions to prepare for a ceasefire.
The Israeli military said five divisions are active in the region with air support, targeting Hezbollah positions.
Israel Defense Forces (IDF) spokesperson Effie Defrin said operations are ongoing and aimed at “deepening achievements” against Hezbollah.
IDF Chief of Staff Eyal Zamir said the military remains on high alert and continues to approve operational plans for both Lebanon and Iran.
