London:A man armed with two knives allegedly tried to carry out a terrorist attack at Israel’s embassy in London, a court has heard.
Abdullah Albadri, 34, was arrested last April while attempting to climb the fence outside the embassy in west London. Prosecutors said he was carrying two knives and a note referring to martyrdom.
At London’s Old Bailey, prosecutor Catherine Pattison told the court that Albadri wanted to send a message about the killing of children in the Israel-Palestine conflict and intended to use violence against the Israeli government.
She said evidence from his phone, along with the note and weapons, suggested he planned to attack people inside the embassy and was prepared to sacrifice his life.
Albadri, who was born in Kuwait, denies the charges. He told police he carried the knives because he was homeless.
Prosecutors said he first entered the UK in 2021 by small boat, left after withdrawing his asylum request, and returned again in April last year. After his asylum claim was rejected, his online activity allegedly shifted towards planning the attack, including searching for the embassy’s location.
On the day of the incident, he sent a photo of a knife and a handwritten note to his mother before heading to the embassy. He was arrested by armed officers just as he was about to climb the fence.
The trial is ongoing.
