DHARAMSHALA: Buddhist spiritual leader the Dalai Lama issued a poignant plea for global peace, warning that history has proven ‘violence only begets more violence and is never a lasting foundation for peace.’

The 90-year-old spiritual leader threw his full support behind Pope Leo XIV’s recent Palm Sunday address, noting that the Pope's call to renounce weapons ‘resonated profoundly’ with him. Highlighting the common ground between all major faiths, he noted that whether one looks to Christianity, Buddhism, Islam, Hinduism, or Judaism, the core message remains ‘love, compassion, tolerance, and self-discipline.’

Addressing the ongoing wars in the Middle East and Ukraine, the Nobel Peace Prize laureate insisted that any lasting resolution ‘must be rooted in dialogue, diplomacy and mutual respect.’ He urged the world to approach these crises with the understanding that ‘at the deepest level, we are all brothers and sisters,’ concluding his message with a prayer that the current violence may soon reach an end.
