Missile Strikes Near Nuclear Sites Raise Global Alarm
The United Nations has warned that recent military strikes around nuclear facilities in Iran and Israel could trigger a dangerous escalation with global consequences.
Speaking on Wednesday, Volker Türk addressed the United Nations Human Rights Council, highlighting growing concerns over Tehran’s attacks across the Gulf region.
In a video statement, Türk said that recent missile strikes near nuclear sites in both countries underscore the “immense danger” of further escalation.
He cautioned that continued hostilities could lead to an “unmitigated catastrophe,” urging all sides to exercise restraint and avoid actions that could worsen the situation.
The warning comes amid heightened tensions in the region, with increasing fears that any further military activity near sensitive nuclear facilities could have severe humanitarian and environmental consequences.
