New Delhi: Three minor sisters were found dead after jumping from the balcony of a ninth-floor apartment in Ghaziabad, near New Delhi, in a case that police say is linked to alleged online gaming addiction.

The victims, aged 12, 14 and 16, reportedly died in the early hours of Wednesday after locking themselves inside a room at their family’s apartment in a residential township. Police said the girls were taken to a nearby hospital, where they were declared dead.

According to investigators, the sisters had become deeply involved in an online, task-based ‘Korean love game’ during the COVID-19 pandemic. Their parents had reportedly raised concerns about excessive screen time and irregular school attendance.

Authorities said the girls left behind an eight-page handwritten diary apologising to their parents and asking them to read the contents carefully. The note, written in a mix of Hindi and English, claimed the diary reflected the truth behind their actions. Messages expressing loneliness were also found written on a wall inside the room.

Family members and neighbours were alerted after a loud sound was heard around 2:15 am. By the time relatives forced the door open, the girls had already jumped, police said.
