Trump Announces Gaza Board of Peace, Warns Hamas to Disarm
US President Donald Trump has announced the creation of a Gaza Board of Peace to oversee Gaza’s reconstruction under his administration’s 20-point post-war plan, while warning Hamas to quickly disarm.
Posting on Truth Social, Mr Trump said the board would be unveiled soon, calling it “the greatest and most prestigious board ever assembled.” He also urged Hamas to return the remains of the last deceased Israeli hostage and move toward full demilitarisation, warning of consequences if it does not.
Mr Trump said “kings, presidents and prime ministers” are eager to join the board, with UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer reportedly offered a role. He will serve as chairman, while Israel said UAE-based Bulgarian diplomat Nickolay Mladenov will be director general.
The announcement follows the launch of phase two of the US Gaza peace plan, which includes a transitional Palestinian administration and the start of reconstruction and demilitarisation.
An October ceasefire ended two years of war triggered by a Hamas-led attack on Israel that killed about 1,200 people. Israel’s response devastated Gaza and, according to local authorities, killed at least 71,000 people
