UN Secretary-General Expresses Alarm Over Escalation in Venezuela

The Secretary-General of the United Nations has expressed deep concern over the recent escalation of tensions in Venezuela, following military action carried out by the United States on Wednesday.
In a statement issued by his spokesperson, the Secretary-General warned that the developments could have serious and worrying consequences for the wider region. He said that, regardless of the situation inside Venezuela, such actions set a dangerous precedent.
The Secretary-General stressed the need for all parties to fully respect international law, including the principles of the UN Charter. He noted with concern that these rules may not have been upheld.
He also called on all actors in Venezuela to engage in inclusive dialogue, while respecting human rights and the rule of law, as the situation continues to evolve.
