Trump: US Will Run Venezuela During Transition
US President Donald Trump said the United States will temporarily oversee Venezuela following recent US strikes and the capture of Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro.
Speaking at a news conference, Trump said the US will “run” Venezuela until a “safe, proper and judicious transition” takes place. He added that American oil companies would help repair Venezuela’s damaged infrastructure and generate income for the country.
Trump said no US military personnel were killed during the operation. He also warned that the US is ready to carry out a second and “much larger” attack if needed.
Before addressing the media, Trump shared an image he said showed Maduro aboard a US naval ship, appearing blindfolded and wearing ear protection.
Earlier, US prosecutors in New York charged Maduro with drug trafficking and weapons-related offences. US officials said he would face American justice. Maduro has previously denied all allegations.
