Bahrain Handball Team Wins Asian Games Gold After Thrilling Final
Bahrain’s national handball team secured the gold medal at the 20th Asian Games, Aichi-Nagoya 2026, after defeating Qatar 33-32 in a closely contested final.
His Highness Shaikh Isa bin Ali Al Khalifa, Vice President of the Bahrain Olympic Committee (BOC) and head of the Kingdom of Bahrain’s delegation to the Games, attended the final and celebrated the team’s victory.
Following the match, HH Shaikh Isa bin Ali Al Khalifa congratulated the players, as well as the technical and administrative staff, praising their performance throughout the tournament and their determination in the decisive final.
HH said the achievement reflected the continued support for Bahraini sport from His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, along with the attention of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister.
His Highness also highlighted the continued follow-up of His Highness Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa, His Majesty’s Representative for Humanitarian Works and Youth Affairs and Chairman of the Supreme Council for Youth and Sports (SCYS), and His Highness Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa, First Deputy Chairman of the SCYS, Chairman of the General Sports Authority (GSA) and President of the BOC.
HH Shaikh Isa bin Ali Al Khalifa expressed pride in the national team, noting that the players had demonstrated their ability to compete at the highest continental level. He praised their commitment, determination and fighting spirit throughout the competition, particularly during the final against Qatar.
He added that the gold medal was the product of years of preparation, planning and collective effort, reflecting the capabilities and expertise within Bahraini handball and its potential for further achievements.
HH Shaikh Isa bin Ali Al Khalifa also praised the Bahrain Handball Federation, chaired by Ali Isa Is'haqi, along with the coaching and administrative teams and all the players for their work during preparations and throughout their participation in the Asian Games.
